I Tried Living Like a Millionaire for 24 Hours on a Student Budget

We all know the “rich lifestyle” videos online. Luxury hotels, expensive coffees, private gyms, aesthetic breakfasts, skincare routines that cost more than rent. For a while, I genuinely started believing everyone online was secretly rich except me.

So I decided to do something slightly ridiculous.

I tried living like a millionaire for 24 hours… while still having the budget of a stressed student.

The goal wasn’t to fake wealth online or pretend I suddenly became successful overnight. I just wanted to see if feeling luxurious actually depends on money — or if most of it is just presentation.

Surprisingly, the internet may have been lying to us a little.

8:00 AM — The “Luxury Morning”

Millionaire mornings online usually begin with sunlight, silence, expensive pajamas, and someone drinking lemon water while overlooking Dubai.

Mine started with three alarms, low battery, and existential dread.

Still, I committed to the challenge.

Instead of rushing into work, I cleaned my room first. I made my bed properly, opened the curtains, and made coffee in an actual glass instead of drinking it directly from a random mug like survival mode.

I even played soft jazz music in the background.

And honestly? My apartment suddenly felt 40% more expensive.

That’s when I realized rich-looking lifestyles are heavily carried by atmosphere. Good lighting and calm music can psychologically manipulate you into thinking your life is together.

11:00 AM — The Expensive Café Experience

The next step was obvious: work from a fancy café.

Now realistically, I could not afford one of those influencer breakfasts that somehow cost €27 and contain exactly two eggs. So I ordered the cheapest coffee possible and acted like I owned three companies.

I opened my laptop, typed aggressively for no reason, and occasionally nodded at the screen like I was making financial decisions.

Everyone around me also looked productive and mysterious. Cafés are basically theaters where people cosplay as successful adults.

Still, something interesting happened. I actually became more productive.

Maybe environment genuinely affects motivation. Or maybe I just wanted to justify spending €4 on coffee.

Either way, I finished work faster than usual.

3:00 PM — The “Self-Care” Phase

Rich people online seem extremely hydrated, emotionally stable, and moisturized.

So I attempted a self-care routine.

Face mask. Long shower. Clean clothes. Skin care. Organized desk. Water with lemon slices for absolutely no reason.

This part shocked me the most because none of it was particularly expensive. Most luxury online is just intentional living with good camera angles.

The expensive part isn’t always the products. It’s having the time and energy to slow down enough to enjoy them.

7:00 PM — Fake Luxury Dinner

I could not afford a fine dining restaurant, so I improvised.

I bought pasta, candles, sparkling water, and cooked at home while pretending I was in one of those “quiet luxury” TikToks.

Was it dramatic? Yes.

Did it work? Also yes.

Turns out eating without scrolling on your phone immediately makes life feel more expensive.

I think modern luxury is actually attention. Most people barely experience moments fully anymore.

Final Thoughts

At the end of the 24 hours, I learned something slightly embarrassing.

A lot of what we associate with “rich lifestyles” is really just:

cleanliness routine calm environments confidence good presentation and intentional habits

Obviously money creates comfort and opportunities. I’m not pretending a candle and iced coffee can replace financial security.

But social media often exaggerates luxury to the point where ordinary people start feeling behind in life.

The truth is, some of the most peaceful moments feel expensive even when they’re not.

And maybe the real millionaire lifestyle is simply having enough time, energy, and peace to enjoy your own life properly.
